A 10-Day Journey Between Nature and the Caribbean

Costa Rica is one of the most captivating destinations in Central America, where active volcanoes, lush rainforests, extraordinary wildlife, and Caribbean beaches come together in perfect balance.

This 10-day itinerary is designed for travelers seeking a well-paced and carefully structured experience, with realistic travel times and no unnecessary transfers.

The journey blends some of the country’s most iconic highlights, such as the Arenal Volcano, with the authentic and laid-back atmosphere of the Caribbean coast, including a stay in Puerto Viejo de Talamanca.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in San José

  • Arrival at San José International Airport, followed by an overnight stay near the airport. A gentle start, allowing time to rest after the journey.

Days 2–3 – La Fortuna & Arenal Volcano

  • Transfer of approximately 3 hours to La Fortuna, one of Costa Rica’s most iconic regions.

    Recommended experiences:
    • Hiking around Arenal Volcano
    • Relaxing in natural hot springs
    • Visiting La Fortuna Waterfall
    • Zip-lining through the rainforest canopy

Day 4 – Transfer to the Caribbean Coast

  • A scenic journey of around 5–6 hours leads to the Caribbean side, through dense tropical landscapes and vibrant greenery.
    Arrival in Puerto Viejo de Talamanca and stay at Villas Roca del Caribe.

Days 5–7 – Puerto Viejo de Talamanca & Surroundings

  • Beaches:
    • Playa Cocles – ideal for surfing
    • Playa Chiquita – peaceful and untouched
    • Punta Uva – among the most beautiful in Costa Rica

    Nature:
    • Cahuita National Park
    • Wildlife spotting: monkeys and sloths
    • Coral reef exploration

Day 8 – Jaguar Rescue Center

  • Visit a wildlife rescue center dedicated to the rehabilitation of local species, where sloths, monkeys, and toucans can be observed up close. 

Day 9 – Caribbean Relaxation

  • A day to slow down: yoga, massage, or simply enjoying the beach.
    In the evening, a typical Caribbean dinner with rice and beans, coconut, and fresh fish.

Day 10 – Return to San José

  • Transfer of approximately 5 hours back to the airport and departure.
